Howdenshire Music was founded in 2019 and is a registered charity (no. 1195161). We are passionate about bringing high quality classical music performances to communities in and around Howden and the surrounding region of East Yorkshire.

Howdenshire Music runs a regular free lunchtime concert series, held on the third Thursday of each month. Each concert features one or more professional musicians performing inspirational pieces of classical music. The concerts take place in the beautiful setting of Howden Minster, a magnificent historic church whose iconic tower can be seen for many miles around the area. We are keen to reach out to our wider community, offering chamber music in an exciting, informal and accessible way to people who may be less familiar with the experience of live classical music. Our concerts are friendly, inclusive and available to all, free of charge.

As well as our regular lunchtime concert series, we also present other special one-off musical events. These often take place at weekends and feature performances and talks by nationally and internationally-renowned musicians.

We also aim to support the next generation of musicians, and to that end we are working in partnership with local schools to provide access to educational musical opportunities for young people in the area. Howdenshire Music also provides a performance platform for emerging and established professional musicians and composers.

In summer 2020 Howdenshire Music launched an appeal to raise funds for a new grand piano to ensure the future of the lunchtime concert series and become a community resource. The response was absolutely incredible and we would like to say a huge thank you to all who supported the appeal. Please click here to read more about our new grand piano.
